Abstract:
Compared with the bulk grain, the bagged grain is easier to be infested with pests and is more difficult to be investigated for pest infestation. To develop an effective trap for psocid detecting and to study population dynamics of psocids in bag stacks of grain, the trapping efficacy of different traps for psocids was evaluated in a store with bagged grain.Four kinds of traps viz.,the vegetable-oil bowl, the oil-soaked cloth, the corrugated cardboard, and the cone-shaped pitfall trap, were set in different areas in a flat warehouse with bagged paddy rice. With the grain temperature of 12.6~21.0℃,movement of psocids was still active and most trapped insects were
Liposcelis entomophila.Number of psocids trapped by the vegetable-oil bowl, the oil-soaked cloth, and the cone-shaped pitfall trap had a positive relationship with the temperature and could precisely reflect the dynamic distribution of psocids. The cone-shaped pitfall trap trapped more psocids than any other three traps.Among the eastern, western, southern, northern and central trapping areas, the largest number of psocids was trapped in the western area, which is next to the entrance of the warehouse. In consideration of its high efficiency in psocid trapping, the cone-shaped pitfall trap shows great potential in the monitoring and the trap&kill of psocids.
