Advances in indoor mass rearing and application research of Habrobracon hebetor

    • Habrobracon hebetor is a prominent gregarious ectoparasitoid wasp for the Lepidoptera pest in both field and storage environments, with a short generation period and a wide range of host range, which widely distribute across the globe. Habrobracon hebetor plays an important role in integrated pest management (IPM) as a biological control agent. This review summarized the recent advancements in basic research and practical applications concerning artificial propagation and release of H.hebetor. For basic research, the impacts of hosts, temperature, supplementary nutrition, and low-temperature storage on the indoor mass propagation of H.hebetor were summarized. The method of mass propagation H.hebetor indoors were also summarized. In terms of practical applications, the effects of environmental factors, plant essential oils, Bacillus thuringiensis, chemical pesticides, and other factors on the control effectiveness of H.hebetor were outlined. The effects of using H.hebetor for pest control in recent years, through both individual release of H.hebetor and combined release with other control methods were also summarized, aiming to provide reference information for the large-scale propagation and application of H.hebetor.
