Research progress on detection and removal of deoxynivalenol in food

    • Adopting rapid, sensitive, and accurate methods combined with efficient sample pretreatment techniques to detect deoxynivalenol (DON) in food, as well as removing DON contamination from food effectively, are important measures for preventing and controlling DON contamination, reducing economic losses, and ensuring food safety. This paper reviews the application of chromatographic and immunoassay methods in combination with sample pretreatment techniques such as liquid-liquid extraction, solid-phase extraction, magnetic solid-phase extraction, and QuEChERS method for the detection of DON in food. It also introduces the advantages and disadvantages, detoxification pathways, and products of physical, chemical and biological methods for removing DON. Finally, the future development trend is outlooked. This paper provides an outlook on future trends, aiming to provide a reference for comprehensive risk management of DON.
