Effects of Different Stages of Boring Insect Pests Infestation on Granule Properties of Wheat Starch

    • The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of different stages of Sitophilus oryzae, Sitophilus zeamais, Rhyzopertha dominica on starch granule properties of wheat, and provide the data support for the utilization and prevention of infested wheat. In this experiment, wheat from Henan No.1YuBao was selected as material to investigate the changes of the starch granule morphology, the particle size distribution of starch, XRD crystal determination curve of starch, FTIR curve of starch of wheat infested by Sitophilus oryzae, Sitophilus zeamais, Rhyzopertha dominica at different stages (egg, larval, pupal and adult stages). The results showed that the morphology of wheat starch granules changed greatly after infested by three kinds of boring pests. The starch surface began to appear obvious depression after the larval stage invasion, and the number of broken starch was the highest after the adult stage invasion; D50, volume average diameter and area mean diameter slightly increased, but the volume average diameter and area mean diameter after the different stages pests infestation did not show regular pattern. The change of the crystallization characteristics of wheat starch was not obvious, and FTIR showed that the crystal structure of starch had few changes.
