Abstract
In order to elucidate the effect of T.castaneum experiencing volatile on their behavioral response and to explore an effective ecological control technique of stored grain insects, the behavioral response of T.castaneum adults experiencing volatile of citronellal at 1:25,1:50,1:75,and 1:100(citronellal:absolute ethanol,V/V) for 0(as a control),1,3 and 15 h was investigated in the laboratory. The results indicated that the repellency of citronellal against T.castaneum adults significantly decreased with the increasing times of experiencing citronellal. The repellency of citronellal (citronellal:absolute ethanol,1:25,V/V) reached 93.33% against T.castaneum adults without experiencing citronellal after 1 h of exposure, and then decreased to 43.33% after 15 h of exposure. The repellency of citronellal (citronellal:absolute ethanol,1:100,V/V) reached 63.33% against T.castaneum adults with 1 h of experiencing citronellal after 1 h of exposure, and then decreased to 35.00% after 15 h of exposure. The results provided theoretical base for further understanding ecological adaption to ambient environment and scientifically controlling stored grain insects by applying behavioral manipulation.
